Ambitious plan calls upon landowners, volunteers, partners, and municipalities to work together to pursue three strategies
What will it take to conserve the important landscapes and natural features in Columbia County? The Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) has a few ideas.
After over a year of analyzing dozens of data sets, collecting input from over 500 community members, and hosting four feedback sessions, CLC is excited to announce the completion of The Plan to Conserve Columbia County.
The Plan includes three ambitious strategies designed to pursue conservation on a larger scale – both in terms of the number of acres conserved and the number of people involved in making conservation happen. The three strategies include conserving 30% of high-priority landscapes, catalyzing 2,500 acts of caring for land each year, and supporting conservation partners.
“I’m so grateful to the committee that shaped this plan,” says Sam Calhoun, CLC’s Conservation Projects Manager. “Thanks to their guidance, we’re confident this plan won’t sit on a shelf gathering dust.”
“Everyone in Columbia County can do their part to put The Plan into action,” says President Troy Weldy. “Whether you’re a landowner, someone interested in volunteering, or part of your local town board or Conservation Advisory Council, you have a role to play!
