Taghkanic Community Forest Opening

Join friends, volunteers, and fans of the forest to celebrate the opening of CLC’s newest public property – the Taghkanic Community Forest!

Drop in to say hello or stay for a whole day of fun. 

We will be gathering at the site’s event entrance along County Route 27, Craryville, NY 12521. More detailed and precise directions to the property can be found here. Please follow the CLC signs and parking attendants’ directions to the parking area. Overflow parking will be in specified areas down the road. Carpooling is recommended. Parking is on rough, uneven ground- trucks and SUVs with higher clearance are strongly recommended. Golf carts will be available to provide rides from parking to the event area. There may be longer wait times during busy periods. Please allow extra time to find parking and reach the event area if you plan to attend a timed walk or BioBlitz.

What to expect: The day is jam-packed with forest-themed festivities including bioblitzes where we’ll identify the plants and animals on the property, kayaking and fishing on the lake, a birds of prey presentation with Ravensbeard Wildlife Center at 1:00 p.m, a tour of our tree planting and habitat restoration project cared for by volunteers, and food and ice cream! A schedule for the day can be found here. As always, please be mindful of poison ivy and ticks as you walk the property throughout the day.

If you are interested in participating in the Taghkanic Community Forest BioBlitz project on iNaturalist, we recommend downloading the iNaturalist app and joining the project beforehand. An instruction guide on how to do that is available here. We can also help answer questions at the Info Table on Saturday.

What to bring: Refillable water bottle, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, sunscreen, camp chair, and bug spray. Bug spray will be available at the check-in table.
