Riparian Restoration and Paddle

Join Women Owning Woods for a riparian restoration workshop at the new Taghkanic Community Forest! Learn about the community forest and riparian plant identification before kayaking on Lake Lahr to remove invasive water chestnuts and phragmites. End the morning with a delicious provided lunch overlooking the lake. This event is free to attend thanks to funds from The Nature Conservancy.

What’s involved: We will walk 0.8 miles along Community Forest Road to reach Lake Lahr. This trail is shaded, firm, packed earth with a typical grade of 7% and a max grade of 18%. Once at the lake, we will paddle in kayaks and canoes to remove the water chestnuts.

What to bring: Water, sunscreen, bug spray, and weather-appropriate clothing and footwear that you don’t mind getting a bit wet. Please bring something to sit on and a way to take notes, such as a notebook and pen.

What not to bring: Please, no dogs.
