Land Camp: Pond Planting & Riparian Restoration

The popular series is back for its third year!

Land Camp invites participants to learn about and try land management techniques in a supportive environment so that they can feel comfortable implementing them at home. This series of workshops is ideal for those already actively managing their land, those who would like to start, and those interested in learning more about how CLC manages the properties we care for.

Join CLC for a primer on using native species plantings to build riparian buffers around ponds. Dylan Cipkowski, Executive Director of the Columbia County Soil and Water District, will lead attendees through the identification and collection of certain native species plants such as elderberry and willow, that can be planted near ponds and other wetlands to improve water quality and reduce pressure from invasive species.

 What’s involved: This event will include walking approximately a half mile of trail from the parking lot along the Red Fox and Pond Loop Trails. The trails are maintained but may include roots and rocky terrain. At times, the group may walk off-trail along the pond’s edge. Additional trail information can be found here.

 Packing list: Water, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, and a way to take notes (i.e. notebook, smartphone).

 What not to bring: Please, no dogs.
