Land Camp: Pond management

The popular series is back for its second year!

Land camp invites participants to learn about and try land management techniques in a supportive environment so that they can feel comfortable implementing them at home. This series of workshops is ideal for those already actively managing their land, those who would like to start, and those interested in learning more about how CLC manages the properties we care for.

The workshop will focus on pond management techniques. Using Sutherland Pond at Ooms as a classroom, we will explore many aspects of pond care, including removing non-native species, cycling nutrients, using herbicides, and managing plant growth. Led by Will Beutow, Biologist II at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, individuals will also learn tips for navigating the DEC permitting and notification process related to pond care.

What’s involved: This event will include walking approximately one and a half miles along the Pond Loop, an open trail featuring a mowed grass path. The group will stop often to discuss pond management along the way. Additional trail information can be found here.

Packing list: Water, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, and a way to take notes (i.e. notebook, smartphone).

What not to bring: Please, no dogs.
