Caring for the land we love takes the whole community! The Columbia Land Conservancy recently celebrated the efforts of several exemplary volunteers during the 2024 volunteer season.
“We’re so grateful for the hard work of these individuals and everyone on the volunteer team!” says Mallory Schultz, Communications & Outreach Coordinator. “When we come together, there’s so much we can achieve.”
“CLC’s public lands are better places to get outside and enjoy nature thanks to these dedicated volunteers,” says Patrick Knapp, Public Lands Manager. “This was one of our best seasons ever!”
Awards included:
The Extra Miler – Rick Hawes, for his work maintaining trails at CLC public lands removing weeds and obstacles
The Top Water Strider – Stan Jolly, for his participation in Floating Friday events removing water chestnuts from Meizinger Lake at Hand Hollow
The Energizer Bunny – Tracy Pennea, for getting people excited about conservation at the Day in the Life of the Hudson River and CLC’s Embers & Evergreens Benefit Barbecue
The Clean Cut Award – Peter Paden for his dedication to keeping the grassland trails at Ooms open and well-mowed
The Scoop & Smile Award – Susan & Faruk Ortabas, for their attendance at community events, where they scooped ice cream with a smile!
The Master Mappers – Leigh McBride & Mack McCormack, for their efforts to walk every mile of CLC’s trails testing out new georeferenced maps
